Doctor Rajaram’s house was built in 1852 and inhabited by French salesmen from Pondicherry’s counter. Situated in the heart of the ancient French quarter, it has been restored by Dr. Rajaram himself under the advise of the INTACH.
Combining successfully the ancient and the modern styles, this restoration should be an example to the many ancient houses threatened by promoters. The Prix du Patrimoine 2003 (Award of heritage 2003) was shared with the Muslim houses of the rue Kazy noticed for the quality of their restoration.
